The building was built to be a four-faculty university: jurisprudence, medical science, theology and philosophy. In order to serve these faculties he created the collection of the library and, according to his words, the idea of creating a university (univeritas) in Eger which could have made the town the centre of science and knowledge, failed because of the absolutist power of kaiserism. The collection consists of 20,293 books concerning the sciences mentioned above. These books were the best available concerning these sciences in the 16th, 17th, 18th centuries. In this way it can be considered as a truly historical scientific collection. The books were mostly written in Latin but there are lots of books in Hungarian and French.
